I would start by listing what's important to you (from the aspect of one of those supporters) for example-- feeding your family (keeping the plantation going), carrying on a family legacy, ensuring all people are free, etc. Whatever you think would be important to that particular person. Then you can expound on those points and say how the threat of losing it changes your way of life, and then finally, why it would be important to fight for it (as in a war) because too many people experiencing that threatened way of life will have a negative impact in your community.
