Astronomy, I am in Brazil, on the equator. Joao Pessoa?

If what you are seeing is just after Sun set then it might be Venus but Jupiter is also in the night sky near the moon. If you have access to a telescope of any sort or a decent pair of binoculars Jupiter will show a number of Galilean moons. It might take your eyes a few minutes to become dark adapted enough to see them though.
