Help me with my phone!?

ok now look. i got a new LG metro "imprint"phone..(what its called) and i wana get my photos to computer for facebook and get music on my phone, hopefully. i have like this charger thing for the phone, its also ausb cord that can gofrom the PC to my phone. so i figured,"hey this could work for music, and importing pictures to my facebook".....i dont think it works..it always say place a disk for this devise to download inside. or it downloads something then stops....am i doing right by trying to dowload stuff with the charger usb cord thing, or that cant happen?plz help!
